# Track action items from Slack

Start read-only. Writing to Slack is the last step and happens only after the user approves the exact text.

## Steps

1. Get the channel, thread or topic the user means. If it is not clear, ask once.
2. Read the thread or channel with `slack_read_thread` or `slack_search_public_and_private`. Open every thread that has replies.
3. Pick out the action items: a clear task, a person asked to do it, or a date. Mark items where the owner or date is missing rather than guessing.
4. Resolve each owner with `slack_search_users` only when the user needs the owner's name confirmed.
5. Present the list, then ask the user where it should go: here in the chat, a Slack canvas, or a message.

## Writing to Slack

- Canvas: use `slack_read_canvas` to check an existing canvas first. Create with `slack_create_canvas` or change with `slack_update_canvas` only after the user approves the full text.
- Message: use `slack_send_message` only after the user approves the exact channel and the exact text. Do not send a reminder or a mention the user did not approve.

## What to report

- Action items as a list: task, owner (or "owner not named"), date (or "no date"), and the message it came from.
- What was written to Slack, if anything, with a link to the canvas or message.
- Items you could not read, such as threads outside the user's access.
